You gotta like green

…That’s why it exists
The timber industry. That’s what kept it alive,  but now it’s tourism
Gotta like green
If you don’t like green, you gotta deal with it

Very fertile, sunshine, vegetation, muskeg
Mountain rocky country, very rugged domain
Like prehistoric times, the ice age just moved off here
The soil base over the rock hasn’t had time to develop
So tree roots grow flat across the ground
Can’t grow down.  It’s solid rock
Nothing to grab on to and blow over
A lotta blowdowns, a lotta debris

The center of  Red Cedar is dead, rotted
Like the stem of a tulip, hollow
Only the outer bark and  sapwood are alive
Dead, dried and seasoned, this Red Cedar refuse turns into topsoil

Commercial thinning, clear cuts.  Timber is merchantable
Versus virgin timber -  old growth, never been logged
The very big timber is up on the mountains
Big hemlock, timber 200 feet tall
We have Tennessee Red (the most fragrant), Western Red,
Yellow Cedar (most rare) and the Giant Red
Also Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock,  with bark that’s scaly
The dead standing snags make great firewood

Yeah, just rock or swamps
And beneath the swamp is rock or lake
Peat moss grows up 11 feet, so it’s one hundred to two hundred feet
To the bottom of that ravine, unforseen
The deeper you go, the more soggy it gets.
Like prehistoric times  before soil built up on the earth
Sink holes, they’ll swallow you up

Lumber mills, big saw mills
Has a Forest Service contract
He cuts lumber really fast
Shipped all over the world

Steelhead streams – The ‘Real’, The ‘Newenberry’
Creekbeds are marble white. Fish show up better
Rainbow and Cutthroat trout
And hundreds of no name lakes full of fish
By the five gallon bucketful

Four deer per person per household, antler deer
For ‘Tricky’ and his boys, that’s twelve deer a season
This year it’s been mostly  twins and triplets
Two bucks or two bucks and a doe
Also ptarmigan, a little native grouse in the summertime
Roaming the western hills
State bird, I think

By skiff, ferry or floatplane
It’s a superb ride to a Native land
You – don’t -  know
You – stupid -  white  – man

Kasaan, Alaska.  Why does it exist?

I recall the words…

Near Ernest Sound, Eastern Passage and

Zimovia Strait

When an eagle comes, south wind on its way

Whooshed through the yellow cypress

See Caulder Mountain for the first time

Shotguns and cricks

In the remote wilderness

That’s how this place is…

Fucked up, doped up

Moonshine, fifteen dollars a quart jar

Or if you prefer, a slow release opioid…

- I don’t like downers, I never have

Garbage cans, small dogs, and kids

All blowing around

Out here

Hillbilly youth, beauteous boy

Harassed and was forced to strip naked

But couldn’t escape and was raped…

Then left home

A trip into the unknown

Lines, wires, cables and chokers

Riggin rats and riggin slingers

How does a truck driver dress

In this country?

Caulk boots

A logging accident…what lies ahead

For this broken down cripple

Last Monday of May

War is not sweet
Poignant images never-ceasing
Alone, half-frightened boys
For glory, duty – many innocent lives
Left up to chance

Pride and majesty for those that died
Patriotic message from the firing line
Of blood that’s shed
Everyone affected, no one spared
Wherever there were injustices
Could not end

The event, an eternal dream
Bright flower and lark that sings
Glorified and not ignored
Visible scars in the time of war
Raised his voice

Crosses lined in a row
Illuminating the unknown
Suffering of men, the cruelty
With clarity and horrid beauty
In weeds of peace

Elsewhere

Temple of the mind, a thousand fantasies lie rotting

This is how it is

As if my madness alone without me

In loving memory

Warned by a raven in the densest growth

Concert of Angels, tell me what you know

Plants in the Rainforest, limited sunlight

Fresh air all closed again, feeding on itself

Colors of the rainbow, streaming light

It’s too dangerous to wait until night

It doesn’t seem to be real somehow, serious and silent

Such a different time flow, black is the violet

Far-sighted

All pink, blue and white

Space Opera of perpetual night

You slay me

Fan of feathers, farthest land

Like a necklace you hang

Floating

In this spot, circling mist

Ever higher wilderness

Astrally perfect

Behold,  a silver ribbon

Double motion, elusion

Fully upwards

Following far away

How time drags…

For this farie changeling

Planetary romance

 Imagine you are in a dimension

and there is no time…

While earth moved around the sun

and two doves descended

Seduced by an alien

- Is it you?

Gladiation, daring escapes

Adventure story set in space

Bonding between clones, fluid genders

Different from real-life cultures

Unrequited and taboo

Disastrous results that follow

In a world that is unreachable…

a very different Superhero

~~~~~~~~
Superhero, master of dreams
Colorful adventure, large canvas
Heightened drama, strange horizons
Between this world and ours
Same edge, different slant
Exaggerated story, negative effect
 It’s not linear, there’s no time
Gravity is slowing down
Lost world separate from our own
A war across time, not love
Pent up energy
Ten to the 26th watts
Energy from the sun
Harness the light
In one form
Harness a volcano
Cascading down
Smooth magma flows
Geothermal form
Energy of motion
Shower of particles
Active galactic nuclei
Whirling black holes
Petroleum and methane
Stored underground
Life cycle of dead plants
And  animals
Stretch the fabric of space
Another false sunrise
Life as we know it
Romantic and dangerous
Demon Flowers
On a summer’s day
Deep glow and the seaweed bending
Lit up her emerald eyes
A pentagon with a star inside
~~~~~~~~~

On summers day

Saw the garden as a tapestry

Everything changes – distorts

Reflected light has different colors

~~~~~~~~~~
Living in the flowers nectar
Cherry and Magnolia
Entities from another dimension
No words.  Looking upward
~~~~~~~~~

Such vivid illumination

Computer simulated

A sliver of a window

The comedy is…ended

Nevada Garden

Medicine Hunter I salute you

Wild and lonely Spring shower

Harvesting all the water

Like hydroponic raindrops in the cosmos

Silver pebbles,  granite rock

By nature and by art

Circling in a wide domain

A single red horse

Only comes out when it’s raining

Roots and stagnant water

Passing phenomenon. Geological times

New landscape with volcanic rock forms

Everywhere it’s puffing and steaming

Harvesting water a hurricane

Hidden crevasses all around

Visibility zero, a total whiteout

Methane gases rise in the atmosphere

Ends the Cretaceous time.  67 million years

Enveloped in an ash cloud

Gas and solid rocks spew out

Freakish creature in the ribbed sand

New kind of theropod.  Non-avian

Common ancestor of the first birds

Crash-landed on a mesa from the stars

The missing link, most primitive specimen

Small body, small claws and powerful arms

A raptor with few changes. A herbivore

Evidence of feathers if you explore

~~~~~~~~~
Mangrove swamp.  Long-lost environment
Leaves its signature in the sediment
Petroglyphs depict  a rich timeline
Where Ghost Estates now lie
Perfectly preserved covered in gold
Further courtyards to his abode
Blue, green, yellow, brown
Dark companion, how did you perform?
Color spectrum fades and melts
10acious creature, a quiet toast
Took all the bones and buried them here
Spectacular nature… Mother Earth
